Relief is gradually coming the way of motorists plying the ever-busy, completely dilapidated Bauchi-Gombe Federal highway as the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has begun its rehabilitation.
The big news for motorists and residents along the highway is that the long-awaited rehabilitation of the three main bridges along this vital route, spearheaded by the NEDC in partnership with the federal government, is nearing completion and bringing much-needed relief.
A recent visit to one of the sites in Kalajanga village revealed a fully completed and operational bridge, with similar progress recorded at other project locations.
For years, these dilapidated bridges have been a nightmare for travellers, causing immense hardship and disrupting economic and educational activities in the region.
However, with the ongoing rehabilitation work, these challenges are gradually becoming a thing of the past.
Residents in the area have expressed their gratitude to the NEDC and the federal government, praising the project as a game-changer and the establishment of the Commission as a major step toward regional development.
The completion of the project marks a turning point for communities along the Bauchi-Gombe axis, restoring hope and easing lives, especially during the rainy season when the bridges normally give way, thereby making commuting difficult.
