The House of Representatives Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expressed displeasure on Wednesday over the failure of the Chief Executive Officers of electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) and Generation Companies (GENCOs) to honor its invitations.
The Committee, chaired by Hon. Obiageli Orogbu, is investigating the five-year compliance of the DISCOs with corporate social responsibility requirements in their host communities.
Hon. Orogbu, who frowned upon the refusal of the management teams of all the DISCOs and GENCOs to appear before the Committee and criticized the DISCOs for sending junior managers to represent them without written authorization, directed the Clerk of the committee, Emmanuel Chukwu, to send another summons to the DISCOs and GENCOs to appear in June.

Failure to honor the invitation will compel the Committee to take appropriate measures to ensure their appearance.
In her opening remarks, Hon. Orogbu emphasized that the meeting was an interactive session intended to confirm how the DISCOs and GENCOs were relating to their host communities regarding corporate social responsibility.
She stated that the Committee had the mandate of the House of Representatives’ leadership to undertake the assignment and therefore expected maximum and diligent cooperation from the electricity companies.
