The House of Representatives will on Thursday commence investigative hearing into the gruesome killing of 17 Military personnel in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, on the 14th of March 2024.

The proposed investigative hearing scheduled to hold at the Conference Hall, Government House Annex, Edjeba Warri, Delta State; was announced via a statement jointly issued by the Chairman, House Committee on Defence, Hon. Babajimi Benson and Chairman, House Committee on Media & Public Affairs, Hon. Akin Rotimi.

“The House of Representatives is committed to transparency and accountability in its pursuit of justice in respect of the carnage that occurred in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State on March 14, 2024.

“In adherence to the House’s resolution of March 19, 2024, the 10th Assembly, House of Representatives is organising an investigative hearing in respect of the subject to explore the immediate and remote causes, effects, and the perpetrators of the tragic incident that led to the loss of lives, including military officers, and other related events.

“The investigative public hearing offers a critical platform for stakeholders to provide valuable information and recommendations,” the statement read in part.

While urging concerned stakeholders and members of the public to submit memoranda with a view to enrich the deliberations, the lawmakers urged Members of the public to submit memoranda are requested to prepare 10 copies and submit them to the Committee no later than one week from today – Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

According to him, “The event is in line with the legislative agenda of the 10th Assembly, House of Representatives, which prioritises the security of lives and property, the welfare of all Nigerians, protection of our uniformed men and women, and robust public engagement.

“The House Committee on Defence looks forward to a robust engagement and meaningful contributions from all stakeholders.”
