The recent fuel price hike has brought economic hardship and transportation crises to Kano, with petrol prices soaring to N950-N1,200 per litre.

Traders, tricycle drivers, students, and daily commuters are struggling to cope with the increased fuel costs.

Malam Sorodunki Gwarzo, a trader, lamented, “I used to fuel my car with N20,000, which lasted three days. Now, it barely lasts two days.”

Rachael John, a student, told Nigerian Tribune she paid N800 transportation fare to attend lectures, up from N500. Salama Ibrahim, another student, said he now walks part of the way to save money.

Traders report increased costs of goods due to transportation expenses. Hajia Binta Ibrahim warned, “Rising fuel prices will lead to inflation, putting more strain on consumers.”

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited cited a $6 billion debt related to petrol supply costs for the price hike.

Kano residents urge the government to stabilize prices and ease economic strain. The situation continues to create uncertainty and hardship, with many fearing the crisis could worsen without immediate action.
