Residents of Saje, Eleja, Arinlese and Itoko in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital have lamented the power outage which the communities has been plunged into in the last two months.
Some residents who spoke to Tropic Reporters correspondent lamented that the epileptic power outage has thrown the communities into total darkness and also affected local business in the areas.
A resident identified as Afolasade stated that the ongoing power outage which commenced since May has affected many things.
She stressed that many residents have submitted faith by purchasing fuel despite the outrageous scarcity and increased in the fuel pump.
“We are also having issues purchasing fuel at the filling station because of increased in the fuel pump price coupled with excessive queues at the stations”.
An attendant of one of the filling stations in the affected areas said that people are used to the power outage as they have continued to visit the filling station to get fuel to power their generating sets.
He said, “The people are already used to the crippled power outage, many of the residents now take succor in petroleum as an alternative”.
An artisan in the area said the long power outage has affected his business as he now carry out his daily business using generator.
Similarly, a frozen food seller in the area told our correspondent that she has incurred debts following the poor power supply in the community.
“This power outage issue has really affected my business because the items I sell need regular power supply for me to remain in business. We are appealing to the appropriate bodies involved to come to our rescue as soon as possible before it generates into something more unpleasant”, she lamented.
Another business woman around Itoko stated that she has incurred debts as its been over two months IBEDC took power in the area. She added that no IBEDC staff have come to tell residents what really happened.
She said, “For the past two months, we have not seen anyone that have come to tell us what really happened. Although, we don’t normally enjoy constant electricity before the outage”.
“Before now, we’ve even gotten used to the poor power supply because no matter our complaints to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), they won’t still be proactive to resolve the problem.”
“I have incurred debts because the business I run needs constant electricity, we have currently been depending on generator to public power, the Irony of the matter is that there is increase in the pump price of petrol”.
A resident of Elega community identified as Mr. Taiwo who also lamented the poor supply in the area, called on the distribution company to rectify the fault as soon as possible. Continue Reading
