Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, Anthony Ofoni, recently performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ugboroke modern market, emphasising his goal to make Uvwie the envy of other local government areas in commerce and economic growth.
The event took place in Ugboroke town in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.
“As I have always said, I will ensure that every community in Uvwie Local Government Area enjoys the dividends of democracy, as it is evident in the different programmes which among others include a similar groundbreaking event of Ekpan modern market that was earlier executed on September 25.
“As a social reformer and following the steps of our state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, I am positive in taking Uvwie to great heights as I desire to see every indigene and resident in Uvwie is provided with the basic necessary social amenities,” he added.
The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Dr. Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso, who commended the good work of the chairman appealed to him to ensure that Uvwie women get considerable numbers of shops before others, just as he frowned at people who intend to collect lock-up shops and rent them out.
“Development like this will not only minimise poverty in Uvwie Local Government Areas but will eradicate youth restiveness and bring to reality the desired Uvwie we all wish for,” the Ovie said.
The engineer on site who simply gave his name as Engineer Joel, said the Ugboroke modern market is a six-block market which consists of 45 shops, toilets for male and female, a security post, an abattoir and a warehouse.
A resident of Ugboroke who spoke under anonymity, appreciated the council chairman for setting up a market in the area, noting that it will not only ease the stress of transporting to a far place to get daily items but will boost economic activities in the area.
Highlight of the ceremony was the foundation-laying of the market by the Ovie of Uvwie, just as the council chairman, chiefs and dignitaries at the event cheered on.
