Senator Sani Musa, representing Niger East and serving as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, has urged the present administration to initiate a process to re-engineer the nation’s security architecture amidst a daunting security challenge in the country.
The lawmaker specifically called for the establishment of State Police, a massive recruitment drive, and the implementation of new tactics in intelligence gathering to address the prevailing state of insecurity caused by multiple crimes, banditry, and a surge in kidnappings across the country.
In a statement personally signed on Monday, Senator Musa emphasised that all tiers of government and Nigerians must recognise the essential role security plays in the survival and flourishing of society. Hence, it is imperative that everyone collaborates to protect individuals, communities, and the entire nation against dangers and attacks.
Senator Musa, while also highlighting the challenges and influence of drug abuse, stressed the need for a serious national stance on drugs. He mentioned that various factors contribute to substance abuse and called for the inclusion of the effects of drug abuse in school curriculums. Factors such as the loss of family support, friends’ influence, peer pressure, and other individualized elements must be addressed, as they constitute some of the strongest influences prompting individuals to abuse substances, resulting in the creation of insecurity.
He further expressed concern about the widening gap between the rich and the poor, emphasizing that the structural imbalance in the local government system needs redefinition. According to him, rebuilding the process by which the state grows in economic productivity, government coercion, political power, and institutional strength is essential for achieving the required security and economic stability.
Senator Musa urged all citizens and leaders to support President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, in his efforts to bring about positive change and renewal in the nation. He believes that President Tinubu possesses the vision, capabilities, political capacity, and institutional coherence required to lead the country toward economic growth, security, and prosperity.
