Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reassured residents that the state remains peaceful and safe despite recent security concerns surrounding the administration of local government areas.

Governor Fubara made this statement during his visit to Omuma Local Government Area, where two security operatives were killed amid a political crisis. The governor’s visit included an inspection of the ongoing 14.6 km Omodu-Eberi road project.

He emphasized that the state is not under siege, countering perceptions formed from reports of protests and police takeovers of council secretariats.

The governor was warmly received by enthusiastic residents and accompanied by the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Promise Reginald.

This assurance follows a directive from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to maintain the police barricade at local government secretariats in Rivers State to prevent a breakdown of law and order. IGP Egbetokun issued this directive while addressing journalists in Abuja during a conference with Commissioners of Police and other senior officers.

He stated that the police would continue to occupy the secretariats until a court of competent jurisdiction resolves the local government crisis in Rivers State.
