Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is emphatic that the home-based players still have much to do in order to play for the main Super Eagles, adding they must have learnt few things from the defeat to Mexico.
The home-based Super Eagles made up of collection of players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) were handed a 4-0 heavy defeat by Mexico in an international friendly played at the Los Angeles Coliseum in California, USA.
“The home based players learnt a lot in this game (against Mexico); unforgettable event for them,” Rohr further reiterated . “They gave all what they had until the cramps and suffering
“They could play in wonderful conditions ( pitch, big crowd, atmosphere).
“ And they could see what is the high level of football and that there is still a lot of work to do to come to the A team,” he noted.
The German further informed Nation Sport that he has already begun preparation for the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers in September and would soon be holding talks with some Europe-based stars, adding he would follow the Euro 2020 to the end.
“I will follow the Euro until the end and meet some of our Super Eagles players before coming back to Nigeria,” the former Bordeaux player and coach told NationSport when asked about his itinerary after watching the home-based 4-0 loss to Mexico in California at the weekend. “We are already in preparation for WC(World Cup) qualifiers.”
Meanwhile, the former Bayern Munich defender said Sunday’s Euro 2020 final could be played between Italy and England at Wembley.
The first game of the last four teams of the tournament would see Italy face-off against defending champions Spain at the Wembley Stadium in London tonight while England battle against Denmark in the other semi-final tomorrow at the same venue.
But pressed to pick the likely Euro 2020 semi-final winners, Rohr simply offered: “ The final could be England-Italy.”
