As part of its humanitarian services, the Rotary Club of Ibadan-Ring Road in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State, in collaboration with Rotary Clubs from Cotonou, District 9126 and 9103, on Tuesday donated French Language textbooks and borehole to secondary schools in Ibadan, the state capital.

The beneficiaries of the intervention are students of Bashorun Ogunmola High School and Queens School, Apata.

President of the club, Bolade Ipadeola revealed that the project had been long anticipated.

“Since the inception of this year, we have had it in our mind that our district must partner with another district and we are glad that we are able to achieve it.

“We started this plan about two to three months ago when the International Director of our club had to liaise with the International Director from the Republic of Benin (Cotonou) with just one club.

“As they were discussing towards it, about 15 clubs joined such as, RC E Concordia, RC de Godomey, RC de Cotonou Lagune, RC de Cotonou Cocotiers, RC de Cotonou Etoile, RC de Cotonou Rive Gauche, de Cotonou NEXUS, RC E- Club de Empowerment, among others.

“The first thing we did was the assessment of the students at Queens School, Apata, where we discovered the difficulties they face everyday in getting water, they have to trek miles before they could get water for use and we provided water for them.

“Also at Bashorun Ogunmola High School, we discovered that the students lack knowledge in French Language and because we are collaborating with a French-speaking country, this gave us the opportunity to distribute French textbooks to students from JSS1 to JSS3 in the school.

“We also carried out tree planting, which is another area of focus of Rotary Club.  We had to plant trees inside Queens School which we had done in Bashorun Ogunmola High School,” Ipadeola said.

She encouraged the management of Queens School to maintain the water project.

Ipadeola further said that the textbooks distributed to students in Bashorun Ogunmola High School are not allowed to be taken home. Rather, they should be used in school.

In his remarks, the Joint Project Chairman, Akoregnon Rodrigue said Rotary Clubs from Benin Republic partnered with Rotary Club of Ibadan-Ring Road to donate textbooks in French Language to the students to help improve their learning conditions.

Mrs Kikelomo Adigun, who represented the state Commissioner for Education, Professor Salihu Adelabu, thanked members of the club for the gesture.

In their separate remarks, Principals of Queen School, Apata and Bashorun Ogunmola High School, Mrs Ogunshina Aderonke and Mrs Oluokun Abosede Olawunmi respectively lauded the clubs for the gesture, saying the donations will go a long way in solving the needs of the students.
