

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sadness over the passing of the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, describing her death as a significant loss to the nation, her home state of Ogun, and the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, which she represented in the Lower Chamber.
Governor Sanwo-Olu conveyed his condolences in a statement released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile. He acknowledged the late Onanuga, also known as “Ijaya,” for her substantial contributions to nation-building as a representative of her people in the Green Chamber.

As Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the late Onanuga as a dedicated lawmaker who passionately served her constituents, Ogun State, and Nigeria until her sudden passing. He noted that her death came at a time when her constituency, Ogun State, and the entire nation needed her service the most.
The governor extended his condolences to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; members of the Green Chamber; the entire National Assembly; and others affected by the unfortunate loss. He remarked that the late Hon. Onanuga would be sorely missed by the political class, particularly her constituents, whose lives she positively impacted in numerous ways during her time in the House of Representatives.
“On behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Lagos State, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the immediate and political family of Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, her friends, colleagues, and associates, especially the people of Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, on the loss of this remarkable Federal lawmaker.

“I also extend my sympathy to the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, members of the Green Chamber, and the entire National Assembly over Hon. Onanuga’s untimely passing.
“Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga’s death occurred at a time when members of her constituency, Ogun State, and indeed Nigeria as a whole, greatly needed her service. She will undoubtedly be missed by the political class, especially her constituents, whose lives she profoundly touched during her tenure in the House of Representatives,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged everyone to view Onanuga’s death as the will of God and take solace in the meaningful life she lived. He prayed for the repose of her soul and asked God to grant her immediate and political family, friends, colleagues, and constituents the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
