A security guard, Francis Istifanus, has been arrested for allegedly stealing property worth about ₦39 million from a company based in Ajah, Lagos State.
In a separate incident, an ex-convict, Babatunde Ibrahim, has been apprehended by operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan for cultism and illegal possession of firearms.
Both suspects were paraded before journalists on Tuesday by Umma Ayuba, the image maker in charge of Zone 2 and a Superintendent of Police.
Ayuba stated: “A case of stealing and receiving stolen properties was reported against Francis Istifanus, who had been working as a security guard at a warehouse in Ajah, Lagos, for over two years. The suspect confessed to stealing one industrial oven, one Mitsubishi air conditioner, a wood carving cutter, four bank glass doors, a gas cooker, four heavy-duty jacks, a 25KVA generator set, and other industrial equipment worth over ₦39 million. These items were loaded and taken to various receivers across the country before he was finally apprehended at his hideout in Abuja, FCT.”
She also added that “efforts are being intensified to apprehend other fleeing suspects.”
In a related matter, based on intelligence gathered by the Assistant Inspector General of Police regarding a notorious suspected member of the EIYE confraternity, who has been terrorising the Ijoko-Ota and Sango areas of Ogun State, the AIG assigned the Officer in Charge of Dragon Squad 2, DSP Adeyemi Akeem, and his team to discreetly carry out the operation.
On October 10, 2024, at about 4:39 a.m., Ibrahim Babatunde, an ex-convict, was arrested during a raid on his hideout along the Ijagba Area of Sango-Ota, Ogun State. Two locally made single-barrel pistols and two live cartridges were recovered from him, which he claimed were purchased for ₦80,000 each from the Benin Republic.
The suspect confessed to being a member of the EIYE confraternity, while efforts to arrest other fleeing suspects continue.
Ibrahim, speaking with Tribune Online, mentioned that he had just returned from prison, where he served a three-year jail term for vandalising a bar in Ogun State.
He acknowledged owning one of the guns found in his possession but claimed that a friend, whom he simply identified as Nice, bought it for him from the Benin Republic.
