Worried by the increasing cases of dastardly activities of kidnappers in the nation’s Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja and its environments in a couple days, the Military and the Nigeria Police Force High Commands as well as the Department of State Services (DSS) are taking security measures to arrest the ugly situation and restore normalcy to the area.
the military was working with other security agencies and stakeholders to go after kidnap syndicates operating in the territory.
Gen Buba said that the Armed Forces were not unaware of the impact of kidnappings on the families of those affected and also recognised the fear it had created among residents lately.
He pointed out that following the resolved of the security forces to put an to the situation, the Military hard deployed technology to detect the hideouts and enclaves of kidnapping gangs and that the tempo of operations had been increased to find, degrade, and destroy them.
According to him, “In the FCT and environs, some of the areas cleared by troops so far include Kawu, Gaba, Deidei, Kubwa Hills, and Ushafa in the FCT, Garam, Jibi, and back of Zuma Rock in Niger State, as well as Gidan Dogo and Kuyeri/Kuyeri Hills in Kaduna.
“There have also been intensified night patrols in the Mpape, Kubwa, Lugbe, Pyakasa, Keti, Gbaupe, Gbaukuchi, and Airport Road, among others”.
According to him, while troops probably do not have all the answers as at now, citizens should be rest assured that the armed forces are working relentlessly to address the hurtful situation.
In same vein, alarmed by the urgly development, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun on Wednesday launched a Special Intervention Squad (SIS), to combat insecurity, and rising kidnapping ravaging havoc in some parts of the nation’s Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja
Speaking while performing the official flags off of the Special Squad at the Force Headquarters, FHQ, Abuja the IGP who expressed deep concern over the unfortunate events in Abuja in the recent time pointed out that with the launch of SIS , similar initiatives would soon be replicated in states neighbouring the FCT to effectively combat criminal incursions, ultimately extending to all states of the Federation.
“Envisioned to include a thousand personnel in each state, the SIS is launched today with officers and men from each tactical unit of the Force, supplemented by a formidable arsenal of operational assets, including sophisticated arms, drones, and vehicles. These assets, some of which are displayed here, are ready for deployment to counteract the security threats.
“This deployment symbolises our unwavering commitment to the safety and security of our people, sending a clear message that criminal elements will find no sanctuary within the FCT, and by extension, Nigeria”.
The Police boss declared; “This operation is more than a mere response; it is a bold strategy aimed at dismantling the criminal networks entrenched in the communities.
“Our approach is comprehensive. Beyond immediate intervention, the SIS will also engage in community-oriented policing – a testament to our philosophy that public safety is a collaborative endeavour. By working hand-in-hand with community leaders, residents, and all skeholders, we aim to fortify the already strong bonds between the Police Force and the communities, ensuring that every corner of the FCT remains a safe haven for its inhabitants.”
While reassuring Nigerians, especially residents of the Federal Capital Territory, of improved security the IGP stated that the operation was not just a mere symbolic act; but “a tangible demonstration of NPF dedication to security”.
Already the Kaduna State Police Command has nabbed the kingpin suspect said to be the brain behind the recent kidnapping activities in Abuja and its environments and handed him over to the FCT Police Command where the suspect is currently undergoing intensive interrogation.
This came just as the Department of State Services DSS, is also said to be working round the clock with the Military and the Police on how to stop kidnapping and other security breaches in the nation’s Federal Capital Territory and its environments.
A highly placed security source confirmed to our Correspondent in conference Abuja that some arrest have been made in connection with alleged kidnapping and other sundry criminal activities in Abuja and its environments in the recent time but declined to go into details for security reasons.
According to the source, “We are on their trail, and i can confirm to you that we are on course, our operatives are already picking up some suspects, we will brief the public through you at the appropriate time please”,
Efforts to speak with the Force Public Relations Officer FPRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi’ on the update of the Police on the kidnapping saga at the press time proved abortive but a Senior Officer told our Correspondent in conference that there was no cause for concern as all hands were on the deck to restore normalcy.
