The Senate has confirmed Chris Najomo as the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The Red Chamber at its plenary on Thursday also confirmed the appointments of three nominees for offices in the nation’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tukur Abdulrazaq Yusuf as National Electoral Commissioner for Northwest , Professor Sunday Nwambam Aja for South East and Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State.

The confirmation of Najomo by the Senate followed the presentation of a report by Senator representing Oyo North and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Abdulfatai Buhari.
Presenting his report, Senator Buhari disclosed to his colleagues that Najomo had been screened on Wednesday and met all the requirements for the position.
The nomination was subsequently put to a voice vote, after which Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, who presided over the plenary, ruled in favour of the ayes.
Checks revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had, on Tuesday, written to the Senate, seeking Najomo’s confirmation in line with the Civil Aviation Act of 2022.
In the letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which was read on the floor of the chamber, Tinubu urged lawmakers to expedite action on the confirmation process.
The letter read in part, “In accordance with the provisions of Section 11, Subsection 1 of the Civil Aviation Act, 2022, I write to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Captain Chris Najomo as Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.”
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Najomo’s ability to lead the regulatory agency, expressing confidence that the nominee has the capacity to strengthen Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Also, confirmation of appointments of the two new National Electoral Commissioners and one Resident Electoral Commissioner by the Senate , followed consideration and adoption of report submitted to it to that effect by its Committee on INEC led by Senator representing Oyo South, Sarafadeen Alli.
