Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo has called on youths in Kogi State to shun all forms of violent protest in their demand to the Federal Government to address current economic hardship in the country.
The Governor stated this in his address at a youth summit organised by the state ministry of youth and sports development at the government house in Lokoja.
Governor Ododo who described the youth as a force in nation building promised to deepen engagement with youths in the state through regular consultation and updates on government policies and programmes.
According to Governor Ododo: “Our youths are our most cherished resources. As young people, we must constantly remind ourselves of our responsibilities to our nation. In February 2023, you came out in your numbers to elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because of your faith in his love for the nation and his capacity to turn things around for better. I urge you to be patient with Mr President as he continues to lead us through a path that will lift our nation out of the current hardship.”
He emphasised the need for the inclusion of more young people in leadership positions in Nigeria so they can lead the way in harnessing abundant natural resources of the country into meaningful development that will transform the lives of the people, stressing that a nation is only as good the energy and resourcefulness of its young people.
Earlier in his welcome address, the state commissioner for youth and sports development, Honourable Monday Anyebe said youths in the state have made significant strides under the leadership of Governor Ododo and called for the continued support of the youth for the administration of the Governor.
He noted that the leadership of the youth movement in the state is committed not take part in the proposed nationwide protest.
In his remarks, the State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Jeremiah Ojodale ruled out the participation of the youths in the state in the planned protest in the country.
On his part, the President of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) Comrade Jeremiah Elukpo. commended Governor Ododo for making the youth and students movement his primary constituency, assuring that the students will continue to rally support for the programmes and policies of the administration.
