Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a woman who allegedly conspired with her male lover to inflict machete cuts on his wife in Omurelu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations officer, Grace Iringe-Koko who confirmed the development on Tuesday in Port Harcourt said the arrest was carried out by “detectives at the Elele Division who acted on directives by the commissioner” of Police, Friday Eboka.
SP Iringe-Koko explained that while the husband of the victim is “still on the run”, CP Eboka has ordered that the case be “transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department” in Port Harcourt for proper investigation and possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, Anayo Warisi who is an elder brother to the victim, said his sister only questioned the reason her husband would bring his “female lover” to their matrimonial home after which the husband and his lover “beat up” the victim with a machete which has put her into “coma”.
Warisi said his sister is “battling to survive in the hospital and called for justice over the matter.
Speaking on the incident, a Human Rights Group, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has called for a “thorough investigation” into the incident.
The secretary of the rights group, Gladys Oyenmwen noted that “domestic violence under any guise has no place in society” and should not be consoled irrespective of who is the perpetrator.
Oyenmwen, while commending the quick intervention of the police, said anyone found culpable in the course of investigations, must be made to face the full wrath of the law. Continue Reading
