The Sokoto State Executive Council on Wednesday approved a sum of N119 billion for submission to the state House of Assembly as a supplementary budget.
The council also approved N17.9 billion for the reconstruction of roads in the state.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Balarabe Kadadi, explained that the budget included inflows from NG-CARES, L-Press, Agile, the Palliative Fund from LG, Ecological Funds, and Excess Crude Oil.
According to him, the proposal will be presented to the state House of Assembly for approval.
Similarly, the state approved N11.8 billion for the reconstruction of the 40.7-kilometer Illela-Gada road.
An additional N3.2 billion was approved for the construction of the Wurno-Huchi road.
The Commissioner for Information, Bello Sambo Dabchadi, noted that these projects are part of the promises made by the Governor during his local government tours. He added that the roads are of significant economic importance to the state.

He further disclosed that N2.9 billion was approved for the construction of the Romo bridge.
The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr. Jabir Maihula, revealed that N156.7 million was approved for the rehabilitation of the oldest Islamiyya school in the state. He noted that the school had trained prominent indigenes of the state, some of whom are now professors and politicians.
An additional N33.4 million was allocated for the renovation of Isa Wasagu Juma’at Mosque.
The Commissioner for Land and Housing, Nasiru Dantsoho, stated that the council approved amendments to the Sokoto High Court Laws and the Shariah Court of Appeal Law, setting the retirement age for judges and Khadis at 70 years. The council also approved an increase in the number of High Court judges to 41 and Khadis to 31.
Additionally, N361.2 million was approved for the renovation of the Shariah Court of Appeal.
