The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Sokoto and District Society comprises of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states have promised to build modern Secretariats where young accountants would have access to necessary information.
Chairman of the District, Alhaji Ismaeel Oluwaseun Suleiman, stated this after he was sworn in as the 5th Chairman of the Sokoto and District Society in Birnin Kebbi.
He said: “We are please to announce that we have acquired prime land in both Birnin Kebbi and Sokoto states, strategically located for the construction of our Secretariat and study Centre. We will collaborate with the ICAN national body and State Governments to ensure that these buildings meet the highest standards.
“This initiative will provide easy access to information and resources for upcoming Accountants,fostering their growth and development. We have also successfully registered the District’s Study Centre name,paving the way for us to commence lectures soon.
“This milestone will undoubtedly lead to an increase in Chartered Accountants within our region, a testament to our commitment to excellence.”
Suleiman who vowed to embark on community relations, publication of district newsletter, welfare packages, development of the district’s website, training of members, conference participation and Catch Them Young programme, noted that with unity among the members, the task ahead would be surmountable.
“Our goal is to create an inclusive and welcoming Society where every member feels valued,engaged, and empowered to contribute. To achieved this, we have developed a range of programmes and initiatives that cater to our diverse needs and interest.
“I urge all members to come forward and share their thoughts and ideas on how we can move forward together, fostering a sense of belonging and collective purpose”.
Earlier, in his valedictory speech,the immediate past chairman of the district ,Alhaji Sanni Yusuf Olatunji,urged all the former executive members to continue to support the new executive.
He disclosed that the association have procured land Sokoto and Kebbi States respectively despite their financial scarcity..
In his remark the Special Guest of the occasion, Chief of Staff to Kebbi State Governor, Barrister Attahiru Maccido commended ICAN for their long aged known ethic and professionalism in the history of accounting in Nigeria and their enormous contribution to the economic development of the country.
Maccido urged the association to start conducting their professional examinations for the accountant students in Kebbi State to ensure catching them young.
He added that the state government would work hard to support the association to capture the students in the state to enroll for their professional examinations.
