Sokoto Police command on Friday paraded no fewer than seventeen persons for various criminal offence.

Speaking while parading the suspects at the command headquarters, spokesperson of the command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said the suspects were arrested for various offence which includes armed robbery, vandalism among others.

He said the suspects were arrested in different locations between December 22nd, 2024 and new year day.

According to the spokesman, “At about 1500hrs Command Strike Force while on raid in a criminal hide out and black sport along Tashar Illela, Mabera and Sokoto Central Motor Park arrested one Aliyu Abubakar, Hassan Danjummai, And Hassan Abubakar all M’ of Kebbi State in possession of one Toyota fish eye vehicle conveying different type of Dangerous weapons and instruments of house breaking:

“Nine (9) Number Plates Of Motorcycle, One (1) Cutlass, One (1) Iron Cutter, Two (2) Hack Saw, Eight (8) Padlocks, Thirty Six (36) Wheel Spanners and a Knifw, which they use in terrorizing the State and environs as well as stealing of innocent citizens motorcycles within Sokoto, Kebbi and Niger.

“In the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to have stolen four motorcycles at Mabera Area Sokoto, two at Achida Market, One Tricycle at Dange – Shuni and one motorcycle at Tureta LGA, and many more in Kebbi state, Rijau and Kontagora in Niger state and sold them to their receivers in Sokoto & Kebbi, identified as one Abdulrauf sani ‘m’ of Kebbi State, Mallam Rabiu and Mubarak Idris all M’ of sokoto who are under police custody, while two other receivers one Sarki Yellow and Sarki Mai Tifa, all M’ of Kebbi State now at large.

” In the same vain, On 26/12/2024 at about 1700hrs one Bello Bala Jamilu M, of Minanata Area Sokoto went to command strike force office and complained that on 22/12/2024 at about 1400hrs unknown person made away with his Hajue UD motorcycle at Mabera Opposite Gidan Dahala Primary Health Care to unknown destination.

“On receipt of the report, the team swung into action raiding black sports within the town and arrested one Ibrahim Sanusi Alias-Wuji-Wuji a serial motorcycle thief at Diplomat area Sokoto.

“On interrogation, he confessed to have stolen the said motorcycle and sold it to one Alhaji Kabiru M’ of Bello way who is now at large, He conspired with one Kabiru Abubakar M’ of Rijiyar Doruwa Area Sokoto and stole Three (3) Hajue motorcycle at different locations and sold them to one Abdulhakeem Abdulazeez Alias AK M’ of Gidan Igwai Area Sokoto, suspect arrested and the three motorcycles were recovered in his possession, the suspects will be charge to court”

The spokesman further said “on 28/12/2024 at about 0100hrs one Aminu Sani “M” of by pass area Yabo LGA, went to the Yabo Police Station and complaint against one Abba Hassan “M” 17yrs of Gidan Igwai Area Sokoto, Aliyu Yau Muhammad ‘M’ 17yrs of Magachi Village Yabo and Salisu chiso “M” 18yrs of Magachi Village that on 27/12/24 at about 2345hrs they were found in possession of transformer tools.

“In the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to have broken into the said village transformer and vandalized it and also stole away the transformer oil and sold it at Jega in Rebbi state, having enjoyed the previous one, they come back to vandalize the transformer by removing the armored cable and copper wires of the transformer;

“The following are recovered from them – hack saw, ring spanner, iron cutter,plier, some transformer tool, one robber pipe and one big spanner which the use in vandalizing transformers. the suspects will be charge to court”

He further disclosed that a group of Vigilante Men of Mailaso Village in Shagari LGA Sokoto arrested and handed over to Shagari Police Station, one Abu Umaru 17yrs, Shafiu Shehu 16yrs and Usman Abdullahi 17yrs all Male of Kesoje and Kajiji Village in Shagari LGA who have been terrorizing the area.

“That on the same date at about 1300hrs while one routine patrol intercepted the set suspect along Shagari kajiji road in possession of bunch of aluminum conductor wire.

“In the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to the offence and had previously vandalized and carted away some of the aluminum wire and sold it to one Muntari Tukur 40yrs and Junaidu Musa 30yrs both M of Kajiji Village, Shagari LGA sokoto and Ashiru M now at-large.

“Also, on 01/01/2025 at about 0500hrs one Aliyu Abubakar and two others all M’ of Aliyu Jodi area sokoto went to command strike force office and complained against one Muhammad Sani Alias Inda, Abdullahi Tujjani all M’ of sokoto metro that on the same date at about 0300hrs they attacked their watch man at their shops at Aliyu Jodi area bearing cutlasses and iron rod.

“On receipt of the information the command strike force team rush to the scene and the said suspects were arrested while the victim was rescued.

“In the course of investigation the suspects confessed to have criminally conspired among themselves carrying said weapons and stole three compressor of freezers valued at 400,000 Naira and sold it to one Maccido Umar now at large.

“They also stole seven (7) trailer batteries at sokoto Central motor park, two (2) block engines at Buzaye Garage, 4.40kilo of Aluminum wire at Gidan Igwai Area, 3.50kilo of Aluminum wire at Siriddawa Area and sold it to Yahaya Kachama, Musa Kanuti, Salmanu, and Ibrahim Ibba all M’ of Kwanni Area now at large, as their receivers”

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police reaffirmed the commitment of the sokoto state police command to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

He called on media to inform the public that the Commissioner of Police and his management team has put a red alert on crime through his area commanders, tactical commanders and Divisional Police officers in the state as critical partners in the fight against crime, the police will appreciate any information that will be-useful enough to help in tackling crime and criminality.

He said the police has zero tolerance for crime that is why, “I am reminding you that if you see something, please say something and police will do something immediate my lines and that of the PPRO remain open for accessibility,” he added.
