Coalition of Youths and Human Right Advocates in Sokoto state has deplored the clampdown of critics by the state government and pleaded for more action against banditry.

The leader of the coalition, Mansur Sani, stated this on Tuesday in a press conference organize by the group in Sokoto.

He condemned the arrest and subsequent arranged of their member, Shafi’u Umar, who was accused of circulating a content against Gov. Ahmad Aliyu and his wife on social media platform.

Recall that Umar was detained by a Magistrate Court following his arraignment by Police on alleged circulating videos of Governor’s wife, Hajia Fatima Aliyu, spreading money during her birthday ceremony.

He said, “Umar was also allegedly accused of sharing a document that indicated that Gov. Aliyu failed his Senior Secondary School Examination as he scored F9 and not capable of speaking English fluently.

Umar was not the first person to share the videos which attracted widespread condemnations from the public in spite of present hunger and hardships faced by citizens.

I believe government should concentrate on tackling the rising security challenges bedeviling the state, the District Head of Gatawa, Alhaji Isa Bawa was murdered in the hands of kidnappers just recently.

The insecurity situation needed proactive actions as more people are being kidnapped in the eastern parts of the state rather than giving attention to social media handlers”

Sani noted clampdown on critics would not yield positive impacts to government and urged the state government to concentrate on providing developmental programmes on the citizens.

”Sokoto needed more action on infrastructural development, education, health, water supply, agriculture and others across the state”, Sani added
