The newly appointed Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, has expressed concerns over what he termed the underreporting of the laudable achievements of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.
He stated that the governor, in less than three years in office, has performed tremendously compared to some other governors in their second tenure.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel in his office on Thursday, Mefor highlighted numerous significant strides made by the current government, including advancements in road infrastructure.
He solicited collaboration with the Chapel to ensure more robust, fair, and comprehensive reporting of the state.
He said, “The Governor has a solid blueprint for Anambra’s growth, but I believe that Soludo’s achievements have not been fully presented. These accomplishments need more publicity and feedback.”
“This government, within two years, has awarded over 400 road contracts and completed more than 250 of them, yet without borrowing. He’s competing with other governors who are in their second tenure.”
“I believe in Soludo, and my reasons are obvious. His political journey started in 2009, and I’ve been with him since then. He has made a name and earned money, so he’s not here to chase clout.”
“He told me he wants to rebuild Anambra, and his blueprint is strategic. When we were presenting him as a presidential candidate for Nigeria, he said he needed to start with his state first.”
“The governor’s reputation resonates globally, and we must leverage this to attract investment and development. Anambra is truly the Light of the Nation. We have a rich heritage, and it’s time to showcase our successes.”
“We must publicise Mr Governor’s efforts to highlight the state’s potential, including embarking on project tours.”
“The media is my primary constituency. If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go with a group. I desire to work with you, so please come along on this journey with me. I’ll be the bridge between you and the government.”
In response, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Mr. Chuks Ilozue, represented by his vice, Mrs. Nkeiru Nwagbo, congratulated the Commissioner on his new appointment and assured him of a robust partnership.
