The wife of the governor of Anambra, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has called for all-stakeholder involvement to assist people who are currently facing challenges of flood in the state.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the governor’s wife stated this when she visited Unity Primary School, Umuoba Anam, in Anambra East Local Government Area of State on Monday, where over 1000 people who were displaced by flood are currently taking shelter.

The Umuoba Anam camp shelters mostly women and children and is one of the major holding centres in Anambra.

The governor’s wife was joined on the visit by a team from the World Health Organization (WHO), led by the South East Zonal Coordinator, Dr Chukwumuanya Igboekwu.

Addressing the people in the camp shortly after inspecting the facility, Mrs Soludo said that the plight of people displaced by the natural disaster is a major concern for the government, noting that people should also come in to help.

She made emphasis on the need to prioritize the health and overall sanitary conditions of the camp, with special attention to the hygiene of women and children.

Mrs Soludo also asked those running the camps to maintain good dietary hygiene for the residents and to make sure all the guidelines for safety are upheld.

She also encouraged those affected by the incident to remain hopeful and strong, as what they are currently dealing with is only a temporary setback.

On his part, the WHO South-East Zonal Coordinator, Dr Igboekwu, promised to work more closely with the state government to provide basic assistance to the camps.

He said that a mobile clinic would be set up in the camp to take care of emerging medical needs and to ensure that those who came in healthy do not leave with sicknesses.

The Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, Sir Ifeanyichukwu Chinweze, noted that the government has been very supportive in providing for the day-to-day needs of the camp and appreciated the governor’s wife for showing her support through the visit.

The Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engineer Julius Chukwuemeka, and that of Health, Dr Afam Obidike, joined the governor’s wife during the visit.
