Senator Surajudeen Bashiru Ajibola’s appointment as the Chairman of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) is yet another testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to revitalizing Nigeria’s economy. The NSDC, a critical agency tasked with transforming the sugar sector into a globally competitive industry, is pivotal in the country’s economic recovery agenda.
Since the announcement of his appointment, Senator Ajibola, fondly called SRJ, has received widespread praise for being the perfect fit for the position. Many see this as a demonstration of President Tinubu’s strategic approach to leadership, ensuring that key positions are entrusted to individuals of competence and integrity.
Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), described the appointment as a masterstroke, saying, “President Tinubu has indeed picked the right person for the job.”
A distinguished lawyer, accomplished politician, and seasoned administrator, SRJ brings to the NSDC a wealth of experience that positions him to drive transformative changes. His supporters have expressed confidence in his ability to lead the council effectively.
Adeniran Kilomodemo Ibitoye, a former Osun State House of Assembly member, commended the appointment, stating, “Senator Ajibola has what it takes to steer the ship of the council. I am confident he will bring his A-game to this role and deliver success. I pray for divine guidance as he embarks on this journey.”
The NSDC’s mission is to position Nigeria as a significant player in the global sugar trade through policies and strategies that will develop the local sugar industry into a viable and efficient sector. With the Nigerian Sugar Master Plan (NSMP) entering its second phase, the council is tasked with creating thousands of jobs and reducing unemployment through sugarcane farming and sugar production.
According to Kamar Bakrin, Executive Secretary of the NSDC, the council’s ongoing reforms and expansion initiatives by operators will soon generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, offering hope to Nigeria’s unemployed population.
Senator Ajibola’s track record in public service and governance has solidified the belief that he is equipped to help the NSDC achieve its ambitious goals. This sentiment was echoed by Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, Chairman of the APC in Osun State, who remarked, “The appointment of Senator Ajibola reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to entrusting critical national assignments to individuals of impeccable integrity and proven competence. With him at the helm, the sugar sector is poised for significant progress.”
The sugar industry plays a crucial role in the nation’s economic development, and many believe SRJ’s leadership will bring renewed hope and tangible progress to the sector.
As Senator Ajibola steps into this pivotal role, expectations are high that his tenure will be marked by impactful leadership and remarkable achievements. Congratulations to Senator Surajudeen Bashiru Ajibola on this well-deserved appointment.
