The stakeholders and kingmakers of Bashar Chiefdom in the Wase local government area of Plateau State have reaffirmed Alhaji Abdullahi Idris as the selected Rekna of Bashar Chiefdom and urged the people of the chiefdom and the entire state to ignore the position of a group called “Concerned Stakeholders of Bashar” regarding the stool.
Recall that a group earlier this week, under the auspices of “Concerned Stakeholders of Bashar Chiefdom,” stated at a press conference in Jos, Plateau State, that Alhaji Abdullahi Idris was not properly selected as the Rekna of Bashar.
Addressing newsmen on Wednesday, the spokesman of the stakeholders and kingmakers of the Chiefdom, Dr. Shehu Mujahid Abubakar, noted that those who addressed the press conference failed to state or demonstrate in what capacity they claim to be stakeholders of the stool of the Rekna of Bashar.
According to him, in matters relating to chieftaincy stools, only members of the royal family (particularly those who were contestants or candidates in an election) and the kingmakers can claim to be stakeholders.
He mentioned that no part of the statement issued or read at the press conference identified the stakeholders, thereby entitling them to object to the selection and appointment of the Rekna of Bashar, conducted on December 23, 2022.
“You recall that following the death of Alhaji Adamu Idris, the late Rekna of Bashar, on September 24, 2022, a new Rekna of Bashar in the person of Alhaji Abdullahi Idris was selected by the kingmakers in compliance with the necessary provisions of the law regulating the selection of the Rekna of Bashar.

“Upon the completion of the selection exercise, Rt. Hon. Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, in the exercise of his powers, appointed Alhaji Abdullahi Idris as the Rekna of Bashar. It is necessary to note that following the said election and appointment, HRH Alhaji Abdullahi Idris was duly conferred with the Staff of Office as the Rekna of Bashar Chiefdom on January 5, 2023.”
Dr. Abubakar narrated that there has been no challenge to the selection or appointment of HRH Alhaji Abdullahi Idris as the Rekna of Bashar and added that no pending suit has been filed by any aggrieved persons, not even Shehu Mujahid Abubakar, who addressed the press on July 8, 2024, on the said subject matter.
He stated that the Rekna of Bashar has received wide acceptance since his ascension to the stool of his forebears, without any rancor from the ruling houses, kingmakers, or the community in general.
“The selection of HRH Alhaji Abdullahi Idris as the Rekna of Bashar is in line with the customs of the Bashar people. HRH Alhaji Abdullahi Idris is undoubtedly a member of the ruling house of Bashar, and his selection was through a proper selection process by the kingmakers.
“Alhaji Abdullahi Idris’s ascension to the throne derives legitimacy from the fact that he is a member of the ruling house of Bashar Chiefdom, as demonstrated by the fact that past Reknas of Bashar are members of the same ruling family as HRH Alhaji Abdullahi Idris.”
