Students in Nigeria today students are passing through economic hardship. Due to economic hardship and reducing value of the naira, many citizens have little interest in furthering their education. In addition, the increase in school fees has also led to many students dropping out of school.
Some parents are unemployed, and bad leadership and corruption have made matters worse.
Although the government has made an intervention by introducing the NELFUND also known as students loan which has brought some relief, however, from the look of things majority of the students are not able to benefit from it because of technical issues.
As students receive their upkeep money every month of about N20,000, due to how prices of goods have increased, such money will not be enough.
The government needs to do more to improve the lot of students and citizens in general by improving the nation’s economy. The government can also help by providing employment opportunities to as many graduates in Nigeria. As the government gives more opportunities to our youth, this can help in reducing corruption, armed robbery, and also reduce the number of school dropouts. Our leaders should lead by example.
