An Ibadan-based property merchant, Alhaji Sufianu Kazeem, has called on Nigerians to support the efforts of the federal government under President Bola Tinubu towards reviving the nation’s dwindling economy.
He told newsmen on Sunday in Ibadan that the administration of President Bola Tinubu inherited an economy which was already in a comatose state.
Kazeem, popularly known as Su-Kazeem is a business man, public commentator and Chief Executive Officer of Su-Kazeem Property, Ibadan.
The renowned businessman and late Chief MKO Abiola’s ally, said that the nation has brighter future under Tinubu, considering the ongoing policies of his administration.
He described Tinubu as a good leader, who was ready to take the nation to prosperity, urging Nigerians to support him while shunning ethnic and political differences.
Kazeem said that Nigerians must embrace attitudinal change, saying the nation’s problem can’t be blamed on only the leaders.
He said that Nigerians are expected to adjust to the current economic realities and challenges.
Kazeem urged the federal government to do more on poverty alleviation by ensuring food sufficiency, regulation of food prices and support for SMEs.
He called on the President to re-introduce the food pricing board toward ensuring that Nigerians have access to quality food at affordable prices.
Kazeem joined in the clamour for local government autonomy, saying the current composition had deprived the people access to good governance at the grassroots.
He said that most state governments have incapacitated local governments which are the closest to the people, urging the president to correct the anomalies under his administration.
Kazeem recommended that state governments should only have the power to only monitor how they spend their finances.
He charged political leaders to give the people good governance which must be devoid of political, religious and ethnic sentiment.
“The National Assembly should amend the constitution to grant local government autonomy and empower governors to only monitor how they spend their finances,” he said.
Kazeem also called on the opposition presidential candidates including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of PDP, former Gov. Peter Obi of LP and former Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso of NNPP to support Tinubu’s administration.
He said that only such action from them would justify their self-confessed love for Nigeria.
“Now that the Supreme Court has declared President Bola Tinubu as the validly elected president of the country in the February 25 presidential election.
“If truly Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso and others love the country as they claimed, they should by now placed the country’s interest above personal interest,” he added.
The property merchant called for collaborative efforts from the three tiers of government and private estate developers.
“Government should do all to regulate how houses are being sublet to the people. Government intervention will help a lot,” he said.
