Suspected kidnappers abduct passengers along Akure/Ikere road

An unspecified number of passengers travelling between Ekiti and Ondo States have been reportedly kidnapped by some gunmen whi laid siege on the road.

There was no information on the incident which happened between Ikere Ekiti and Iju axis of Ondo State but it was reported that  unspecified number of people had been abducted.

At the scene of the incident two vehicles, a Toyota Corolla and a white Highlander, were noticed on the road and the occupants wete said to have been kidnapped and taken into the forest around Iju.

A video of the abandoned vehicles is being circulated on social media, showing how the hoodlums riddled the vehicles with bullets.

A source in the area, confirmed that the incident happened on Thursday night, saying the two vehicles were intercepted, saying with the vehicles riddled with bullets, it is obvious the drivers were forced to stop.

“The kidnappers might have marched them into the bush, the incident happened in the evening and it came to our knowledge on Friday morning when we saw the vehicles riddled with bullets”

He however, said the incident had been reported to the police in the area and they had visited the scene of the incident but there was no development over the incident.

Speaking, the State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident but said the command cannot confirm the number of people involved in the incident.

She explained that men of the anti kidnapping section of the command swung into action immediately the incident was reported and said “they have combing the forest since.

She also noted that no official report from the family or families of the owner of the two vehicles while there was no report of missing people in the state.

The police image maker however, assured that the state Police command would soon unravel what took place and rescue the victims if it was a case of abduction but said it was not clear whether the kidnappers had contacted the family members for ransom.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that men of the Amotekun in the state had already started tracking the kidnappers, while some number of Amotekun men had been deployed to the forest since Friday morning.
