Aderonke Makinde, a 35-year-old teacher employed at Westgate Land Emperial Creche, Nursery and Primary School, was charged in the Mushin district of Lagos State after allegedly using a cane to beat a 9-year-old student named Oyinkansola Kayode.
She appears in front of Magistrate E. Kubenje on one count of assault.

The defendant committed the offence on March 28, 2023, according to police prosecutor Ajayi Kehinde, a deputy superintendent of police (SP).
The indictment said that Aderonke Makinde had assaulted a 9-year-old girl named Oyinkansola Kayode by caning her on March 28, 2023, at the school located at No. 1 Okesanya Street, Papa-Ajao, Mushin, Lagos State in the Lagos Magisterial District.
The charge read that Aderonke Makinde, on 28th March, 2023, at the school located at No. 1 Okesanya Street, Papa-Ajao, Mushin, Lagos State in the Lagos Magisterial District had assaulted one Oyinkansola Kayode, 9-year-old by flogging her with a cane, an offence that contravenes Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The teacher pleaded not guilty to the charge. The defendant was granted a bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.
The case was adjourned by the Magistate Kubenje till 7th June, 2023.
