The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, on Sunday confirmed the killing of five of its personnel attached to the troops of Operation HADIN KAI in an encounter with terrorists along the Buratai – Buni Gari Road.
This was contained in a statement made available to Defence Correspondents in Abuja by the Director of Defence Media Operations, DDMO, Major General Edward Buba.
According to the statement, “During the encounter, troops lost a Lieutenant who was killed in action, while four personnel were wounded in action and are receiving treatment.

The statement explained that the “Troops’ reinforcement pursued the terrorists to their hideout within the Timbuktu Triangle and made contact, during which the troops neutralized six of them and the remaining terrorists ran in disarray.
It further added that the troops recovered assorted weapons from the bandits comprising five AK-47 rifles and 103 rounds of the 7.62mm special ammunition.
It pointed out that the troops have begun a hunt for the remnant terrorists who fled the firefight.
Recall that a similar ambush of troops occurred in Okuama Community of Delta State last month while on a peace mission to the troubled communities in the area, during which officers and soldiers were ambushed and murdered
