Nigerian politician and Presidential Candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, presents himself as an intelligent and ambitious man who wants a better future for Nigeria. But his performance as governor has not satisfied the population. And his opponents believe that he is not yet experienced enough for such a high and grand position as president of the country.
Peter Obi served as Governor of Anambra in 2006-2014. During his tenure as governor of Anambra, he failed to prove to the people his decisiveness in decision making and also failed to demonstrate his diplomatic skills, which is what are essential qualities for a head of state.
On his part, however, Peter Obi has not been hesitant to give advice in an area in which he is clearly not competent enough. He urged the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, to better address the socio-economic problems of the state.
Also, the convener of Concerned Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ogenyi Okpoku, is also unimpressed with the results of Obi’s administration and claims that dealing with governors who have failed their states is at the core of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign. “The first point of call of Mr Peter Obi is failure. He is patronizing failures. If you check the people that surround his campaign, they’re failures; people that are not able to take responsibility for their actions,” says Ogenyi Okpoku.
Meanwhile, many of his actions indicate that Peter Obi has already proved that as a government official, he has achieved nothing but failure. His other fellow two-term governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, stresses that Peter Obi failed to address the security challenges in the state while he was governor in Anambra. According to many sources, Obi was not able to tackle the activities of Bakassi Boys gang.
Peter Obi’s past administration and his professional and personal qualities makes him quite unsuitable for the post he seeks. One of the major problems of Nigeria lies within the security area. Terrorist attacks and numerous kidnappings are a burning issue for the modern Nigeria, these stop the country from developing and prospering. Peter Obi ill-managed his state as a governor, failed to tackle the security situation and did not achieve any diplomatic victories. He is not the right person to lead Nigeria, as the country needs a courageous, determined and diplomatic man with high moral values and charisma.
