IN the ancient, storied land of Ijebu Owo Kingdom, a new chapter of leadership and service is being written by Hon. (Dr.) Timehin Adelegbe, a two-term member of the House of Representatives representing Owo/Ose Federal Constituency in Ondo State. Recently bestowed with the prestigious chieftaincy title of Bobagunwa, which translates to “Reign with the King,” Adelegbe’s recognition is not merely ceremonial—it is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the development and empowerment of his community. Over the years, Adelegbe has emerged as a beacon of hope and a true community builder, using his resources, political influence and opportunities to bring about tangible, lasting change in the lives of his constituents. His journey to being honored by His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Kofoworola Oladoyinbo, the Ojomo Luda of Ijebu Owo Kingdom, was paved with numerous achievements that have significantly improved the well-being of the people of Owo and Ose.

From the outset of his tenure in the National Assembly, Adelegbe demonstrated a deep commitment to his people. Marking his first 100 days in office, he distributed cash gifts to over 400 party, youth, and women leaders across the federal constituency, signaling his intent to prioritize the welfare of his constituents. This initial act of generosity was just the beginning of a series of impactful initiatives that have since transformed the social and economic landscape of the region. One of Adelegbe’s most notable contributions has been his focus on empowerment. Understanding that sustainable development begins with the economic empowerment of individuals, he has rolled out numerous programs designed to uplift the most vulnerable in his constituency. From distributing palliative items during the COVID-19 pandemic to empowering over 2,440 members of the constituency with valuable materials, Adelegbe has consistently sought to alleviate poverty and provide his people with the tools they need to thrive.

His efforts extend beyond immediate relief to long-term infrastructure and development projects. Adelegbe facilitated the repair of 250 boreholes across Owo and Ose, ensuring that communities had access to clean water—a basic necessity that had long been lacking in many areas. He also played a key role in rural electrification projects, such as the one at Upenmen in Owo, bringing light and progress to previously neglected areas. Adelegbe’s tenure has also seen significant improvements in the region’s infrastructure. He facilitated the reconstruction of critical roads such as the Molege Junction-Ute Road and the rehabilitation of federal roads in Ose Local Government, including the Sobe/Ijagba/Arimogija/Ute/Okeluse stretch. These projects have not only improved transportation but  also boosted the local economy by enhancing trade and connectivity.

Education and skills development have been central to Adelegbe’s mission. He has built well-equipped skill acquisition centers at Ireakari Comprehensive High School in Idoani and Adeyeri Grammar School in Iyere Owo, providing young people with the training and resources they need to build successful careers. In addition, he constructed a modern science laboratory at Uso Grammar School, underscoring his belief in the power of education to transform lives. The breadth of Adelegbe’s contributions is remarkable. He has overseen the construction of several modern town halls in communities such as Idogun, Okeluse, and Ifon, providing spaces for civic engagement and community gatherings. Beyond these physical developments, Adelegbe has shown a deep understanding of the socio-economic needs of his people.

He has distributed essential tools and equipment—such as sewing machines, deep freezers, generating sets, and hairdryers—to support small businesses across the constituency. Recognizing the challenges faced by the physically challenged, he has provided orthopedic wheelchairs and other aids, ensuring that no one is left behind in his vision of progress.

As a leader, Adelegbe has not only responded to the immediate needs of his constituency but has also laid the groundwork for future prosperity. His ongoing projects, including the construction of Ogbese and Omi Alafa bridges, will further enhance connectivity and economic opportunities in the region.

It is this relentless dedication to community building that has earned Hon. Timehin Adelegbe the esteemed title of Bobagunwa of Ijebu Owo Kingdom. His contributions have not gone unnoticed by the traditional leaders and the people he serves. The magnificent Hall of Fame he built at the Olowo’s Palace stands as a lasting symbol of his commitment to preserving the heritage and pride of the Owo people.

As the newly crowned Bobagunwa, Adelegbe’s focus remains the empowerment of his people. In commemorating his chieftaincy, he has planned another round of empowerment programs, including the distribution of cocoa seedlings to farmers, training on cybersecurity for youth, and the provision of over 1,000 laptops. These initiatives are a demonstration of his belief that economic empowerment is the foundation of sustainable development.

As the week-long celebration of his chieftaincy unfolds, with dignitaries including the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and other esteemed guests in attendance, the people of Owo/Ose Federal Constituency can take pride in the fact that they have a leader who not only reigns with the king but also reigns in their hearts—building a brighter future for all.
