At least three indigenes of the Enugwu-Ukwu community were killed on Monday over land dispute by individuals suspected to be from the neighboring Nawfia community.

Both Enugwu-Ukwu and Nawfia are neighboring communities in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A source told Nigerian Tribune that the two communities have been in conflict over land for some time.

On Monday, some unidentified Nawfia indigenes allegedly lured members of the Enugwu-Ukwu community to the disputed land through a phone call and attacked them.

The attack resulted in the death of three individuals, with many others injured and currently hospitalized.

In response, leaders and residents of the Enugwu-Ukwu community have called on the state government to urgently investigate the killings.

Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba, Nigeria’s immediate past Ambassador to Burundi and a cabinet member of the community, expressed that the entire town is in shock and mourning over the brutal attack on their kinsmen.

A press statement by State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has order investigation into the murder.

He said the incident happened at about 2pm on Monday at the boundary between the two communities.

He said, “Preliminary information reveals the victims were lured by some individuals through a phone call to the land in guise of a land transaction and attacked with guns and matchet.

“CP has sued for calm as police operatives have recovered the abandoned Sienna vehicle used by the murders.

“Also, the testimonies of the injured victims who are currently receiving treatment in the hospital is aiding the investigation while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue.
