Three people were feared killed in a renewed cult clash between two rival cult groups in Owo, in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo, on Tuesday night over battle for supremacy.
It was gathered the attack which occurred across the streets of Owo town paralysed social and commercial activities as residents and shop owners scampered for safety and were forced to close earlier.
A source said the clash occurred between 8:30 pm and 9 pm on Tuesday but said the cause of the clash was still unknown as at the time of filing this report.
He said members of the rival cult groups shot sporadically for hours, killing some people in the process.
He stated the remains of some of the victims killed during the fracas were quickly evacuated by their members.
Although, the Ondo State Police Command claimed that no casualty was recorded, but the residents confirmed that at least three persons were gunned down during the shootout between the two rival groups.
The State Police Command Spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami while confirming the incident said policemen were yet to track those behind the fracas and the casualties affected during the fight.
“The Police is currently on patrol within Owo, we have been in touch with the Area Commander and DPO, but no one is ready to report or even assist with any information.
“However, the anti-cultism men have been deployed.”
The state Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye who also confirmed the clash said his men were on ground to bring the situation under control.
