Three people were reportedly killed by suspected armed herders who invaded Mbasombo community in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, reportedly left several others injured, while residents of the community fled to neighbouring villages.

Several houses were said to have been set ablaze during the attack.

A resident of the community, who identified himself as Abraham, told journalists on Thursday that the suspected marauders stormed the village under the cover of darkness.

He said, “Residents were already asleep when we heard sporadic gunshots. They opened fire indiscriminately and set many houses on fire. The sudden attack forced some people to flee their homes into surrounding bushes and nearby villages.”

The resident added that three corpses were recovered on Thursday morning, with many others sustaining injuries.
