There was pandemonium in Osogbo capital of Osun state on Tuesday around the popular Old Garage when two rival secondary school students clashed.
Students of Osogbo Grammar School and Government Technical College Osogbo attacked themselves with clubs and stones.
The two neigbhouring schools on old Ede road, Osogbo were said to have clashed around the area before they marched to Oke-Fia to the Old Garage area in the evening.
An eyewitness said: “Those students caused a riot as they were attacking each other around the old garage. The policemen attempted to arrest them but they repelled them by hurling stones and sticks at them.
“The Amotekun corps in uniform also tried their best to restore peace but those students were hell bent on attacking each other.
“Those students later unleashed mayhem at the Old Garage area and some guys that claimed to be hunters arrested some of the students.
“Upon the arrest, other students took to their heels. The hunters group of Nigeria arrested three students and handed them over to the police.”
Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr Jamiu Olawumi, confirmed three students had been arrested.
He said: “Any student that behaves in a manner inimical to the peace of the society, of school or his fellow students would face the law of the state.
“So people who were using dangerous students on themselves, the three of them have been arrested and will be charged to court and will be dealt with accordingly.
“We will not condone indiscipline in our schools. We have transcended that because we can identify our student. They no longer wear the same uniform and can no longer enter any school to start a fight.
“They have been arrested by the police, the CP is on top of the situation and I am assuring you, they will face the consequences.”
