President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a youth secretariat for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced this on Monday during a town hall meeting at the Bwari Area Council. The meeting aimed to mobilize youths in the territory against participating in the planned hunger protest.

Earlier, during similar town hall meetings at the Abuja Municipal Area Council and the Abaji Area Council, Wike had promised the youths that he would present their request to the President. He highlighted that three of his current cabinet appointees were young people, two of whom are indigenous to the FCT.

Wike also mentioned that he had requested the appointment of an FCT indigene as the Head of the FCT Public Complaints Commission, a request that the President has also approved.

The minister expressed gratitude to the youth for choosing dialogue with the government over joining the planned #EndBadGovernance protests.

“Let me thank you for saying that you prefer to dialogue, you prefer to talk to each other instead of going to the streets. That shows your maturity, that shows your understanding and support for the administration,” Wike said.

He continued, “On Saturday, I told the people of AMAC when they requested the establishment of a youth secretariat. I said they should take it for granted, I know that when I meet Mr. President, he will approve. Yesterday, while at Kwali, I repeated what I said. I bring you good news; I saw the President last night, and he has approved the establishment of the youth secretariat.

“The President has the capacity; he has never denied that there are challenges. He said there are challenges, but we must be patient as he works to solve and tackle these challenges.”
