President Bola Tinubu is currently presiding over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

At the meeting, the FEC congratulated the people of Edo State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their resounding success in the recent governorship election held last Saturday.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, conveyed the Council’s sentiments, acknowledging the APC’s “fantastic outing” after an eight-year absence from victory in the state.

Akume credited President Tinubu’s dedication to democratic values for the party’s success, praising his commitment to free and fair elections. “We congratulate the people of Edo State, especially the APC family, guided by the leadership of the party’s father, for achieving this significant victory after eight years,” Akume said.

He continued: “The election has been widely regarded as free and fair, a reflection of the President’s unwavering support for the democratic process. We express our gratitude to you, Mr. President, for upholding the principles of electoral transparency.”

Additionally, the Council observed a minute of silence in honour of Mrs. Salome Audu Jankada, a former member of the FEC who passed away on August 27, 2024. Jankada had served as the Minister of Women Affairs and Youth Development under former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

Akume paid tribute to her contributions, stating, “We announce with sadness the passing of Mrs. Salome Audu Jankada, a former member of this Council who served as Minister of Women Affairs and Youth Development. In accordance with our tradition, I request that Council members rise to observe a minute of silence in her honour.”

The meeting will also review several memoranda.
