THE Muslim Congress (TMC), Oyo State chapter, has called on Muslims to embrace digital technologies as essential tools for strategic planning in shaping the future of Islamic work.
This call was made at the organisation’s annual congress held on Sunday at TMC Da’wah Centre, Ologuneru, Ibadan.
Delivering the keynote lecture, an Islamic scholar, Dr Ishaq Ogunwande, asserted that the rapidly evolving modern society required the adoption of strategic approaches to Islamic activism.
According to Dr Ogunwande, the digital world presents both challenges and opportunities for Islamic workers, with new possibilities for development emerging on a daily basis.
He encouraged Islamic scholars to utilise social media for the teaching of pristine Islam, provision of guidance and counselling and promotion of Arabic language, even as he charged them to take advantage of other benefits that digital platforms offer.
Earlier in an address, the waali (coordinator) of TMC in the state, Alhaji Daud Oladosu, commended the members for their dedication to the development of the organisation.
Oladosu stated that TMC Oyo State would continue to utilise social media to guide the youth and the wider Muslim community.
He expressed dismay over the tendency of some Muslim scholars to engage in heated verbal exchanges online, urging Islamic workers to promote pristine Islam on social media in accordance with the Qur’an and the Sunnah, and avoid insults and mockery.
The amir, Alhaji Abdul Wasi Taiwo Bamgbala, also commended the efforts of TMC members in Oyo State, recognising their contributions to the betterment of the society.
He urged members to remain steadfast in their efforts to propagate Islam, reminding them of the significance of this work for their hereafter.
Alhaji Bamgbala praised the multi-million naira Da’wah Centre project under way at Ologuneru, Ibadan, and called on other states to replicate such endeavours.
During an inspection of the project, which has already gulped about N20 million, the National Asset Maintenance Officer of TMC, Alhaji Sherifdeen Akano, appealed to philanthropists to support the undertaking.
He stressed that the centre would be of immense value to the entire Muslim community.
As part of the event, the state TMC Public Relations Officer II, Malam Abdul Hameed Abdur Raheem, was honoured with the award of the Most Outstanding State Executive of the Year.
The criteria for the award include financial commitment, creativity, initiative, dedication to TMC activities and membership recruitment efforts.
Also, Oyo West ranked third in the Most Outstanding Local Government category, with Oluyole coming second and Ibadan North taking the first position.
Ibadan North East was also recognised for its success in membership recruitment with the award of the Best Local Government of the Year in Membership Drive.
The programme was attended by notable personalities, including TMC patron, Alhaji Lukman Akinyemi; Alhaji Zainu Abideen Abdul Ganiy, Dr Murtadho Olajide and Ustadh Maruf Oladejo.
