Following a recent surge in the spate of kidnapping and killings in the country, former Kaduna State lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani has called for all-round support for the country’s service chiefs instead of national backlash. The service chiefs faced heavy criticisms on Tuesday after two traditional rulers were killed, and students were kidnapped in Ekiti State.
While reacting, President Bola Tinubu and top government officials in the country condemned the incident, and some Nigerians on social media called for the dismissal of the country’s service chiefs.
In his response on Twitter, Senator Sani argued that it is too early for Nigerians to demand the dismissal of the security heads, as they have performed better than their predecessors despite the worsening security challenges.
“Somewhere I read about some calls for the Sack of the service chiefs. It’s too early to call for their sack. There is an actual resurgence of terror attacks across the country, but they are doing better than their predecessors. They should be supported and encouraged to do more to secure the country. The security challenges we are facing today are direct results of the failure of yesterday,” the senator said.
Corroborating his position, a Twitter user identified as Citizen for Ethical Governance added, “You are very right, the previous administration emboldened terrorists coupled with the escalated hunger in the country. But first things first, open grazing is unacceptable at this age and time. The herders-farmers crises should be things of the past now.”
