The Oluaye of Ogboni Aborigines Worldwide, Oba Adewale Idunnufa, has described as disturbing the spate of kidnapping, killings and other vices nationwide, thereby calling on President Bola Tinubu to map out security strategies to arrest the situation.
Oba Idunnuifa in an interview with the Tribune Online in Ibadan on Thursday described the rising insecurity nationwide as a threat to the nation’s nascent democracy.
He said if necessary measures are not taken, multinational companies might be forced to leave the country with its attendant effect on the nation’s economy.
According to him, “As far as Nigeria is the only country we have, it is incumbent for all hands to be on the deck to rescue it from the jaws of economic crisis, insecurity and youth unemployment.”
The monarch expressed confidence that ever since he has come to believe in the power of the Almighty, prayers and sacrifice have never failed to resolve any form of challenges including insecurity.
“Those of us who know history would agree with me that the crime of kidnapping and economic crises are not new to the black nations and particularly in Nigeria. But in those days, our forefathers do offer sacrifices to gods for divine intervention. That is one of the efficacy of the Ogboni confraternity in those days. They offer sacrifices and prayers to drive or sway evils from the society.”
He also added that Ogboni confraternity has a role to play in rescuing Nigeria from its present predicament and must therefore not be overlooked or neglected.
As for the prevalent rate of terrorism and kidnapping in Nigeria, Oba Idunuifa urged the Federal Government to look inwards, saying, “Our leaders should look inward. The rate at which terrorism is happening in the nation cannot be without the involvement of insiders.
“Our governments should have mercy on Nigerians who voted them into power. There is serious suffering in the country despite the enormous wealth that we possess. There is a need to improve the welfare of our security agents, especially the police.”
