In a recent military operation in Kaduna, troops of Operation Forest Sanity, a unit under 1 Division Nigerian Army, have once again demonstrated their effectiveness in combating banditry.
The operation resulted in the killing of two bandit leaders and the capture of several arms, ammunition and equipment.
According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations 1 Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the operation was based on intelligence that revealed a bandit leader named Isiya Danwasa intended to purchase arms and ammunition in Kaduna town.
The troops trailed and apprehended his errand boy, Yunusa, who was later used to lure the two bandit leaders to an ammunition collection point. Upon their arrival, the bandits were engaged and neutralised by the waiting troops.
Items recovered from the bandits included two AK 47 rifles, six AK 47 magazines, 250 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, one power bank, two charm vests, a destroyed motorcycle, and the sum of two hundred thousand naira.
The General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Punch, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, has commended the troops for their professional conduct and execution of the task.
He further charged the troops to continue the fight against banditry and other criminal activities.
Meanwhile, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has applauded the troops for neutralising a notorious bandit leader, Isiya Danwasa, responsible for several killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling operations across the state. Danwasa met his end during a strategic ambush operation in the Sabon Birni’s general area of Igabi LGA.
Governor El-Rufai praised the troops for their diligent intelligence work and precise execution that led to the demise of Danwasa and his associate. He also called on members of the general public to continue to provide credible and actionable information to security forces.
