All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured Nigerians that the present administration would redeem its pledge on short and long-term palliatives to cushion the effect of removal of subsidy on petrol.
APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje made the declaration on Tuesday when he met a Forum of former Directors of APC Presidential Campaign Council which paid him a visit.
The team was led by Major-General Abdulmalik Jubril.
The APC Chairman who said the removal of subsidy was a welcome development said Nigerians would very soon feel the impact of the short and long-term palliatives promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said: “It was obvious that subsidy could not continue and the removal was a welcome development. Tinubu was honest because during campaigns he said he would remove it. Of course, there are pains but if you follow the patterns of development of developed nations they passed through same stage.
“Tinubu has pointed out his medium and short-term measures palliatives. If you look at it, the short-term measures aren’t sustainable it is the long-term measures that are sustainable.
“Government is making efforts to improve salary of workers. Another issue is transportation and the federal government has gone ahead with plans to distribute vehicles that will make transportation cost cheaper.
“In few months, the federal government will start distributing vehicles that are using gas and electricity. Another way is the railway system which will make transportation much more easier. So, government is committed to cushioning the pains of removal of subsidy.”
Also responding to the demand of the Forum for party patronage, Ganduje assured them that “the APC as a party and as an institution will pay attention to your organisation”.
Earlier in his presentation, General Jubril said the Forum would continue to give the needed support to the Bola Tinubu administration.
