No fewer than two individuals were feared dead while many others were trapped under the rubbles as two-storey building collapsed in Lagos.
The two-storey building, located at Mega Mall Estate, Mobile Road, Inikpa Ajah, Lagos collapsed at exactly 14:00 pm on Tuesday.
Controller South West Office of the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the incident, said: “Adult 1 and 1 teenage boy dead body recovered, 5 adults were rescued alive”.
Responders are currently on site with frantic efforts to rescue the trapped occupants.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), in a statement, confirmed the incident and detailed the ongoing rescue efforts.
“Upon the arrival of the Shark team at the incident scene, it was discovered that a two-storey building under construction had collapsed at the aforementioned location,” LASEMA stated.
The immediate cause of the collapse remains unknown, with further investigations underway. LASEMA confirmed that an adult male was pronounced dead by LASAMBUS officials, while four other adult males sustained serious injuries and were promptly transported to the hospital.
The agency reported that their heavy-duty equipment has been deployed to the site, and rescue operations are still in progress, with efforts being made to ensure no individuals remain trapped in the debris.
