Two physically challenged individuals have been arrested by the police in Lagos State for allegedly attempting to rob a physically challenged tricycle operator.

Reports indicate that the arrested suspects, along with one accomplice who remains at large, attempted to strangle the tricycle rider in their bid to snatch his vehicle.

The state police command’s image maker, Benjamin Hundeyin, identified the arrested suspects as Mande Bello and Samsondeen Usman. He also stated that authorities are currently searching for the third suspect, known only as Gasali, who escaped during the incident.

According to Hundeyin, “On October 10, 2024, at about 3:00 PM, a complainant, who is also physically challenged and operates a tricycle, reported at Denton Police Station that on October 9, 2024, at around 8:00 PM, he had given a ride to Mande Bello, Samsondeen Usman, and Gasali (surname unknown) at Boson Roundabout, Oyingbo. They all begged him to drop them at the intersection of the Third Mainland Bridge, which he initially declined.”

The complainant recounted that as he attempted to drop them off at the intersection, Mande Bello produced a cable wire in an attempt to strangle him. In the ensuing struggle, he managed to wrestle with the suspects and forcefully returned to Oko Baba with Mande Bello and Samsondeen Usman, while Gasali fled the scene.

Hundeyin further explained, “Upon receiving the report, the two suspects were arrested and their statements recorded. Preliminary investigations revealed that the trio specialises in snatching tricycles from unsuspecting members of the public in the state.”

He added that “investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing suspect.”
