FESTUS Daniel is ETPM Nigeria’s CEO and in his publication, Transforming Career Routes in the Digital Age, he underscores the importance of further learning in order to achieve one’s career objectives.

Daniel admits that the merging of technology and education in the 21st century has produced previously unseen possibilities for transforming the way people are trained for the workforce, adding that ETPM Nigeria is leading this change by utilising educational technology to improve career paths and ensure that people have the required skills to succeed in the digital age.

He says the conventional approaches to education and work are progressively becoming obsolete, as the curriculum taught in institutions of higher learning cannot adequately prepare one for the workforce.

“The rapid technological innovation needs workforce that are highly trained and willing to pursue lifelong learning. This is the crucial opportunity that ETPM is seizing in other to create an ‘ETPM Job Start Career Programme,’ which leverages educational technology to close the knowledge gap between academia and industry —  the dynamic demands of the labour market.”

The publication reveals that the skills gap is one of the biggest problems in today’s labour economy, particularly in Africa, adding that in the context of Africa, many organisations start well but struggle and some wind up within the startup stage due to lack of qualified skilled workers.

The inadequacies of employees later come to the fore, with Dr Daniel saying, “Employers frequently discover that graduates lack the transferable skills necessary for success in their positions. The ETPM Job Start Programme, therefore, provides tailored learning opportunities that closely correspond with industry demands to tackle this problem head-on, using adaptive learning technology and sophisticated analytics.”

As a result, he says the firm’s programme ensures that students possess both the theoretical knowledge and practical abilities that companies want.

He says lifelong learning is more important in the digital age, adding that the speed at which market trends and technological breakthroughs change means that skills demanded now can become obsolete tomorrow.

This is, therefore, the major reason it is important to think outside the box and embrace strategies that will transform one’s career, especially in the current digital age.
