Bauchi Field Office of the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) is set to engage Media men in a one – day Media dialogue on the ‘First 1000 Days’ of the child.

The engagement will have as participants, working Journalists from Bauchi, Gombe and Adamawa states who are expected to be oriented on how to use their reports to bring to the fore, issues that are militating against the first 1000 days of the child in the area. 

According to UNICEF, the first 1,000 days of life, the days between conception and a child’s second birthday, are a critical period that underscores the survival of a child. 

The period presents an opportunity to lay solid foundations for the child’s lifetime development.

It however lamented that, despite the significance of the first 1,000 days, due to varying factors, millions of children, mostly in the developing world, do not access the basic elements they require for a solid foundation in their first 1,000 days.

The Media Dialogue will aim to create awareness for the media on the importance of first 1,000 days to child survival and thriving.

The dialogue will also highlight to the media, the peculiar threats to a healthy first 1,000 days in UNICEF Bauchi Field Office focus states of Bauchi, Gombe and Adamawa and the extant implications.

The Media Dialogue is scheduled for between Monday, 10th to Thursday 13th July 2023. According to the schedule, 10th is arrival day; 11th is for inhouse brainstorming session, 12th is for field visit to selected health facilities in Gombe and 13th is departure day while the Venue of the dialogue is Emerald Hotel, Gombe, Gombe state.
