The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has lauded the efforts of Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State and 14 local government council chairmen for proposing an allocation of ₦2.9 billion in the 2025 budget as part of social protection to address poverty in the state.

In a letter signed by the UNICEF representative in Nigeria, Cristian Munduate, with reference number Ref: NCO/Rep/2025/Jan/006/CM/MJ, addressed to His Excellency Dauda Lawal, Executive Governor of Zamfara State, the letter reads in part:

“On behalf of UNICEF, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to you and the government of Zamfara State on the remarkable progress made in advancing social protection for children and vulnerable populations.

“The decision by all 14 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to propose an allocation of ₦2.9 billion in their 2025 budget for social protection initiatives is a significant milestone in strengthening child well-being and addressing poverty.

“This achievement reflects your administration’s commitment to improving the lives of the most vulnerable and aligns with the State Social Protection Policy and Law.

“As I assured you during my recent visit, UNICEF remains a committed partner in supporting the next steps, including the planned orientation workshop for LGA chairmen and social protection focal persons scheduled for 17-20 February 2025.

“We appreciate your leadership and look forward to continued collaboration in ensuring that these budget commitments translate into meaningful impact for children and families across Zamfara State.”
