UNICEF, in conjunction with the National Population Commission (NPC), has trained 120 enumerators on birth registration training activities in four local government areas in the Idah federal constituency of Kogi state.
The local governments are Idah, Ibaji, Igalamela/Odolu, and Ofu local government areas in Kogi State.
The three-day event witnessed 120 enumerators, 30 each from the four local government areas, trained at St. Peter in Idah on Friday.
The ICT Coordinator, Mr. Ehimoni Kolawole, while addressing the 120 enumerators at St. Peter in Idah, said the exercise was necessary to enable them to have accurate data on children given birth in their various communities in the Idah federal constituency.
He noted that enumerators will be fully equipped for the exercise so that they can give an accurate report at the end of the exercise.
Mr Kolawole stressed that this will enable the government to plan effectively for the people by knowing the numbers of children given birth during a particular year.
” You are expected to visit wards and houses for house registration. You must also capture children given birth to by women on the street. Those of you who may have some challenges, especially in Ibaji, where their is no network, are expected to record them in a sheet, and then later transfer them to your Android, where there is a network,” he said.
He also cautioned them to avoid recording fake data, whereby some enumerators will sit down in one place and record everything by themselves without actually going to where they were posted to conduct the exercise.
The three-day training also took place in the Ayingba, Ankpa, and Dekina local government areas.
