A 26-year-old Maryland native has been arrested on gun charges and is being questioned in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown Manhattan last week.
Tribune Online reports that Brian Thompson was fatally shot Wednesday morning in Midtown Manhattan, New York, in what police have described as a “brazen, targeted attack.”
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in a manhunt that spanned the East Coast.

Acting on a tip from a restaurant employee, officers found Mangione seated with a laptop, wearing a blue medical mask. When asked to lower his mask, officers recognised him from police-distributed photos tied to the Manhattan shooting.
Police said Mangione initially reacted with silence and visible nervousness when questioned about recent trips to New York. A search of his backpack later revealed a 3D-printed pistol and a silencer, leading to additional charges under Pennsylvania law.
According to NewYork Times, a senior law enforcement official stated that Mangione presented the same fake New Jersey ID to police as the one the suspected gunman used to check into a hostel on Manhattan’s Upper West Side on 24 November.
Mangione has been charged with five crimes, including carrying a firearm without a license, forgery, and providing false identification to authorities. He was transported to Altoona Police Department’s station before being arraigned at the Blair County courthouse on Monday evening.
The case gained traction after the NYPD released images of the suspect following the fatal shooting of Thompson last Wednesday.
