Alax Evalsam, the Nigerian pastry seller who became an internet sensation with his catchy “Fish Pie” tune, has shared how fame led to personal and financial struggles.

In August 2024, Alax’s life changed after he posted a TikTok video while hawking his fish pies, where he sang the now-famous line: “Nawa o, some people dem too do oh, nawa o. Fish pieeee.” The video quickly went viral, with millions of views across social media platforms.

However, despite the attention, Alax revealed that he had been misused by others. He explained that rumours claiming he received large sums of money from celebrities were false. “The rumours that they gave me N10 million, N5 million, and more are untrue. The truth is, many of these people took advantage of me,” he shared.

Alax went on to say that his business had suffered, with his shop still empty. “If they had given me all that money, I am a businessman and would have used it to stock my shop. But if you visit my shop now, it is empty, and there are no goods,” he explained.

He also clarified his social media situation, revealing that many of the accounts bearing his name were not his own. “I do not have a Facebook page, and all those accounts with millions of views are not mine. My first one was taken from me, and another person used it,” he said.

Despite these challenges, Alax emphasized that he has not made money from his social media presence and is still learning how to monetize it. “I have not made a dime from social media, and the only time I make money is when they call me for skit-making. I don’t know how to make money on social media, and it’s only now that I’m learning,” he said.

While acknowledging his hardships, Alax remained hopeful. “I am surviving on the grace of God,” he said, adding that despite his struggles, he is speaking the truth about what really happened behind the viral fame.
